I agree that there are some insufferable elitist twits out there in the world, and some of them wear the label of "foodie." And no doubt, some of them are into frou-frou organic green iced tea with guarana and dingleberry extracts that is hand picked by virgins and brewed by solar power with filtered mountain water from Tibet before being decanted in limited edition glass-bottles and labelled with artwork representing the return of the Ancient Earth Mother Goddess Gaia.

It's like saying that my sometimes liking to read Dickens is wrong in a world with so many people with low literacy. It's dumb and wrong and not even logical!

You hit the nail on the head with your comment--it isn't even well written. Not only is there not a shred of research evident in her opinion, her argument is badly constructed. She just flails around and flings crap at any target she gets in her sights, but in the end, says a lot of nothing.

I admire Powell for her cooking adventure, but that doesn't excuse poorly written op ed pieces.

It better damn well be filtered!
Otherwise it'd have feces in it.
Personal witness from a Tibetan area, plus what I know about feces on Everest.
